Everyone who volunteers their time to be involved in supporting the STAR Bereavement Peer Support Group has the opportunity to take on a range of particular roles and responsibilities. Some feel comfortable leading the support sessions, some prefer to help with hospitality roles, some prefer to help set up the room, and some prefer to remain behind the scenes and help with distribution of literature and administration duties; the list of job roles vary. Whatever the job role, everyone is equally valued on what they can bring to the team.

What do the STAR Facilitators say?...
"We laugh, we cry, we laugh and cry some more!"
"You can actually see the difference it is making to everyone involved."
"I am on a journey – I have people in front of me who can help me and I have people behind me and I’d like to help them."
“We are not just there as facilitators or helpers, we are actually part of the group as a whole. – the group is 'one'. ’’
"We listen and we understand"
I initially came along for support (which I still receive), but now I can see how much I am helping others which gives me great strength and reward.
It's amazing to a part of a team of people who care about others.
“I’m here to listen and give support because I care but actually, I find that when I leave the session I feel that I’ve received therapy because the reward of helping others and making a positive difference to somebody’s life is amazing!”
